Failure Symptoms Leading to Transmission Repair!
One of the most important components to fail and thereby cause improper vehicle operation is the transmission. Problems can become apparent in many ways, and with varying causes, some requiring extensive transmission repair while others need only an adjustment or minor transmission service.
The most common symptoms leading to a transmission repair are:
- "Check Engine" Light On
- Strange Noises–coming from under the hood or rear of car, (hum or low whine, clicking, knocking, screeching, buzzing, whistling, clanking, or grating).
- "Slow Response"–the vehicle won't move or it shifts late during the first few minutes of operation.
- Slipping–Vehicle moves slowly or won't accelerate, even though engine is racing. It may feel like it is in gear, but pauses or hesitates before the vehicle moves.
- Stalling–This typically happens repeatedly over a short period of time.
- No Response– When the shift lever is placed in Drive, nothing happens.
- Reverse–The shift lever does not fully engage in Reverse.
- Fluid Leaks–Find stains or pools under the vehicle.
- Loss of Power–The passing gear doesn't engage when the accelerator is pressed to the floor.
- Erratic Shifting– Shifting that is noticeably early or delayed.
- Shift Handle Hard to Move–Hard to move into or out of any position.
- Vehicle Jerks– While first starting the car or before you turn it off, the vehicle jerks while in Park or Neutral.
- Strange Smell–Burnt or rancid odor is coming from under the hood or underneath vehicle.
- Shift Indicator Off–Shift indicator doesn't point to the proper range (P) or (N).
- Metal Shavings or Debris–Excessive amounts of debris in the transmission pan.
If your vehicle experiences any one or more of the issues above, find a trustworthy transmission repair technician to determine the cause of the problem and have it taken care of as soon as possible.
