Express Auto Service & Repair

Have the hot days of summer taken a toll on your vehicle's air conditioner? Why keep suffering? Take your vehicle into your preferred auto center so you can finish out the summer in comfort. Did you know that an A/C service will also impact how your heater keeps you warm this winter? Ask for expert advice from the professionals at your auto shop.

Actually, how a vehicle air conditioner functions is pretty simple. By understanding it, you will know when your A/C system is not working properly.

  • The main components of the A/C system are the compressor and Freon. The compressor pumps Freon (a compressed form of gas and liquid) throughout the A/C system under pressure and is passed through different sized metal and rubber hoses and an expansion valve that causes the gas to expand and contract, making it very cold. This cold gas makes its way into the dash area of your vehicle via metal lines to the evaporator core (like a small radiator with cold gas circulating inside and not hot antifreeze). A small fan in front of the evaporator core blows air across this cold evaporator through the vents inside your vehicle.
  • The other function of the A/C system is to remove the heat from inside the passenger compartment. Freon does this with the help of the A/C condenser located at the front of the car. Freon is forced through coils in the condenser which have small slits or fins. The condenser has a cooling fan mounted in front or behind it to push or pull air through these fins to remove the heat from the Freon.

Loss of cooling can be caused by the following issues:

  • Lack of air flow across the condenser -- The electric cooling fan motor is not operating.
  • Low Freon levels. Freon level and pressure must be at recommended levels.
  • Overheating. An engine that is running hot or overheating will have a negative effect on the A/C system, especially if the cooling fans are not working.

Know how to keep your cool? Get performance checks of the A/C system at your preferred auto center on a regular basis!
