- Yesterday's Tune up -- In older cars, adjustments to the ignition timing and fuel mixture; replacing the distributor cap, distributor rotor and ignition wires, and replacing spark plugs as recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.
- Today's Tune Up – Newer vehicles are controlled by computers that are not adjustable. So a tune up generally consists of replacing the fuel and air filters, new plugs and wires (unless it's coil-on-plug), possibly a fluid flush, cleaning the carbon out of the throttle body, and flushing the fuel injectors with a special solvent.
